Abortion: Support for Parental Choice in Massachusetts?

PARENTAL CONSENT

Support or oppose parental consent for someone under 17 seeking an abortion?                                                                                                 4/18 Tarrance Group 4/1state general for Susan B. Anthony an anti abortion group

All Voters       Democrats    Women          Pro choice

Support          62%                55%                60%                52%

Oppose          38%                45%                40%                48%

In Massachusetts, currently, it is required that a girl aged 17 years or younger must get permission from her parents, guardian, or a superior court judge before obtaining an abortion. Are you in favor or opposed to lifting this requirement?                                             4/19 Emerson state general

All Voters       Democrats

Favor                                       42%                44%

Opposed                                 39%                32%

Unsure or no opinion          20%                29%

Emerson’s question includes more information and looks more accurate to me, BUT Democrats look just like the general electorate with only 42% in favor of lifting the requirement with 32% opposed. Eliminating the parental consent requirement will be a heavy political lift.

LATE TERM ABORTIONS

On the issue of abortion, the Massachusetts Legislature is considering a bill that would allow women to obtain an abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy in cases of fatal fetal anomalies. Do you support or oppose this part of the bill?                                                                     6/19 Suffolk state general

Support          64%          Oppose          23%           Undecided    12%          Refused         1%

Do you support or oppose allowing more late-term abortions?                                                                                                                                            4/19 Tarrance Group state general  for Susan B. Anthony an anti abortion group

All Voters       Democrats    Unenrolled    Pro choice

Oppose          62%                49%                66%               44%

Do you support allowing abortions after 24 weeks in cases where the mother’s health is in danger or the fetus has a grave anomaly? 10/18 MassInc state general for Mass NARAL a pro choice group

Yes        76%          No       24%

We have three slightly different questions from three different sources. If it’s the anti abortion just “allowing more late term abortions” it’s 62% oppose. When the pro abortion source adds“mother’s health is in danger or the fetus has a grave abnormality” it’s 76% support. Suffolk, without a horse in the race, uses “fatal fetal anomalies (abnormalities?)” which pulls a 64% support making it safe to say that most folks don’t like late term abortions unless the mother’s life is in danger or the child has a grave or fatal abnormality.
